Facilitating Knowledge Exchange
6 juLY 2017
Our mission is to help the people we serve improve their health, wellbeing and sense of security. We can’t achieve this mission without working together with our clients and the experts in health care, insurance and technology. We organised two events to share expertise and knowledge, one for our International Organisation clients and one for South African brokers.
IO Seminar: The promise of E-Health
Every two years, we organise a seminar for International Organisations. The 8th edition of the seminar took place in Mechelen on Friday, 9th June. This edition was dedicated to E-Health and the digital (r)evolution in health care.
During the seminar a panel of expert speakers shared their insights and the newest developments and innovations. The 60+ external attendees learned about telemedicine, mobile health applications, and connected (‘integrated’) care.
David Cordani, Cigna's President and CEO, kicked off the day with an inspiring talk on Cigna’s digital vision. He was followed by Dr Stefan Biesdorf (McKinsey & C°), Carlos Nueno (Advance Medical), Joost Felix (AGFA), José Quesada (Cigna), Philip Woolfson (Steptoe & Johnson), Nick Guldemond (Erasmus University) and Michiel Everars (Cigna).
During the breaks attendees could explore and enjoy the various innovative booths, such as a Virtual Reality Escape Pod and a BioBall game to measure their biometrics.
This year the seminar was almost paper-free. We used an event app to provide attendees with the event information and the presentation hand-outs. Thanks to going digital, we were able to save 60kg of paper.
In collaboration with our partner Hollard Insurance, we organised a first Broker Thought Leadership Seminar in Johannesburg, South Africa on 12th June 2017. Our objective was to facilitate a knowledge sharing event with industry experts and introduce the Hollard Cigna Health plan to the South African broker community.
IM President Jason Sadler joined the seminar and addressed the 40 delegates with key learnings from the 360° wellbeing survey, as well as some highlights on the IM business strategy. Bart Jordens, General Manager of the IO and Africa business, shared some insights on the extensive experience Cigna built in Africa through the International Organisations segment.
In addition to Hollard and Cigna presentations, Roseanne De Silva, President of the Actuarial Society of South Africa, explained the health care issues in Africa and the key differences between South Africa and the rest of the African continent.
We closed the day with an inspiring session from Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling, a South African rowing team who won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. Lawrence is a cancer survivor and they spoke about their compelling journey to the Olympic race during his recovery, the importance of teamwork, setting goals and overcoming challenges.
After the seminar, we addressed journalists of South African broker and business media. You can read the articles here:
