Celebrating the importance of families
11 may 2017
15th May is the International Day of Families. This year the UN wants to raise awareness of the role of families in promoting early childhood education for children and youth.
The UN found that early stimulation and interaction with parents and caregivers jumpstarts brain development and learning in children. The first years of life are crucial for children. How they are parented and cared for affects their brain function for the years to come.
We also want to take this opportunity to give a special shout out to the 50+ Cigna employees (two from the Antwerp Cigna office) who teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to bring new homes and hope to three underprivileged families in Thailand.
Veerle Schaerlaekens and Joris van Regemortel, the volunteers from the Antwerp Cigna office, wrote about the experience:
“It was fantastic to see so many people from different countries, cultures and languages work together for such a great cause. Even with the heat and hard work, everyone brought their own unique value to the team; whether it was a friendly smile, light-hearted banter or the quick wit and insight needed to get through the more challenging parts of the build.
But perhaps most wonderful of all is knowing our hard work will be enjoyed by such a deserving family for years to come.”
