Corporate social responsibility

Cigna has committed to acting in a socially responsible way towards all stakeholders: shareholders, clients, plan members, employees, and the planet as a whole.

We strongly believe in business ethics and we continually strive to be cleaner, greener, and respectful of all. We support and pursue international principles and standards with regard to human rights, labour rights, environmental protection, and ethical business conduct – and we have deliberately chosen to go far beyond the minimum legal requirements.

The United Nations Global Compact

In 2005, Cigna joined the United Nations Global Compact, a public-private partnership founded in 2000 by former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. By signing the United Nations Global Compact, we expressed our commitment to support the Compact’s Ten Principles regarding human rights, labour standards, the environment and ethics.

Our annual Communication on Progress describes in detail our commitment, actions and performance concerning each principle.

We care for the environment

Cigna is the first leading company in international life, accident, and health insurance to have achieved full carbon neutrality. Since 2009, we fully offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our office operations, business travel, and employee commuting worldwide.

Diversity Declaration

Cigna has signed the Diversity Declaration of the Employers’ Platform for Diversity, a collaborative initiative of the main representative bodies of employers in the Flemish region in Belgium.

By endorsing this declaration, we committed ourselves to fostering diversity by objectifying our Human Resources policy in terms of recruitment, development, and salary.
